About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Head of Governance and Risk to join our not-for-profit organisation within the housing sector. This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive leader to drive compliance, risk management, and corporate governance within a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements.
- Develop and manage risk management strategies to mitigate organisational risks effectively.
- Ensure adherence to housing association regulations and governance best practices.
- Support the board and executive team with governance advice and strategic risk management.
- Implement a robust internal control system to maintain accountability and transparency.
- Oversee policy development and ensure all governance and risk policies are up to date.
- Manage internal and external audit processes, ensuring full compliance with regulatory bodies.
- Act as a key liaison with regulators, reporting on governance, compliance, and risk matters.
- Lead organisational training on governance and risk-related issues.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in governance, risk management, and compliance within the not-for-profit or housing association sector.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks relevant to housing associations.
- Excellent leadership skills with experience managing governance and risk teams.
- Ability to provide strategic risk and governance advice to senior stakeholders.
- Experience in policy development and implementation.
- Strong understanding of internal control systems and audit processes.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
- Degree or relevant professional qualification in governance, risk management, law, or a related field.
Desirable
- Membership of a recognised governance or risk management professional body (e.g., ICSA, IRM).
- Experience working with boards and committees in a senior advisory capacity.
- Understanding of financial and operational risk specific to housing associations.
