Head of Data Governance & Design

This role involves taking ownership of the data blueprint within a central Data & Analytics function, supporting the organisation’s transformation by ensuring high-quality, secure, and scalable data assets. The position is essential for establishing standards that enable effective automation, regulatory compliance, and informed decision-making.
Role Overview:
The Head of Data Governance & Design plays a pivotal role in shaping the organisation’s data landscape. Reporting to the Director of Data & Analytics, you will oversee the Data Design and Governance teams, driving the development and implementation of enterprise-wide frameworks. Your work will ensure data is consistently accurate, secure, and aligned with business objectives, helping turn data into a strategic asset.
Key Skills & Experience:
• Significant leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary data functions including Governance, Quality, and Design.
• Expert-level knowledge of ER modelling and methodologies such as Kimball and Inmon.
• Proven success in embedding governance frameworks and MDM strategies within regulated or complex environments.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, capable of influencing at board level and bridging technical teams with senior stakeholders.
• Experience overseeing large-scale data migrations and integrations, preferably within Agile settings.
Key Responsibilities:
• Mentor and scale high-performing teams across Data Design and Governance disciplines.
• Design and embed comprehensive data governance and quality frameworks to improve data maturity.
• Lead the development of conceptual, logical, and dimensional data models to meet evolving business needs.
• Manage master and reference data practices to eliminate silos and enhance data consistency.
• Chair the Data Governance Forum and act as a senior ambassador to promote data standards organisation-wide.
• Ensure data assets meet stringent regulatory requirements and support operational performance.
Requirements:
• Right to work in the UK.

• Experience in leading data functions with a focus on governance and design.
• Knowledge of ER modelling, Kimball, and Inmon methods.
• Demonstrated ability to embed governance frameworks in regulated environments.
