Location: Surrey (hybrid) - 2 days / week
Salary: £47,000 - £56,000 per annum
Full time: Permanent
Benefits: 30 days + 8 bank holidays + university closure days | 15% Employer Contribution pension scheme | Many more
This isn’t a “keep the lights on” role.
This is a career-defining opportunity to take ownership of a critical function at a major UK university and transform how data and integrations power the organisation.
What we're looking for?
This role suits someone who combines technical credibility with leadership drive.
You might be:
- A Senior/Lead Data Engineer or Integration Specialist ready to step up
- An Integration Architect who still enjoys being close to delivery
- A Hands-on Manager who has led teams through change
About the role
This role has a clear mandate to modernise enterprise integration and data platforms, with senior sponsorship and funding already in place. Reporting to a senior digital leader, you’ll take ownership of strategy, architecture, and standards, while leading a capable technical team and working closely with stakeholders across the organisation.
Right now, integration is the biggest priority on the CIO’s agenda. It touches every system, every department, and every major initiative, from finance and HR to student services.
They need someone who can step in, take control, and build something better.
You’ll need:
- Strong experience with integration technologies (APIs, ETL, messaging)
- Exposure to Azure (ADF, Integration Services) and modern data platforms
- A track record of delivering improvements, not just maintaining systems
- The ability to lead, challenge, and energise a technical team
What can make you stand out:
- Microsoft‑centric integration tooling (e.g. ADF, SSIS, Logic Apps, Service Bus, API Management)
- Modern data lakehouse platforms (e.g. Microsoft Fabric, Spark, Delta Lake, or equivalent)
- Reference data design, reusable integration patterns, or automated testing in integration environments
- Large, complex, or public‑sector style organisations
Why join?
- High visibility role with direct impact across the university
- Backed by senior leadership as a top strategic priority
- Opportunity to shape architecture, tooling, and ways of working
- A team that is skilled, motivated, and ready for change
- Real scope to leave a lasting legacy
If you’re looking for a role where you can own the outcome, drive real change, and build something modern from the ground up, this is it.
