Service Charge Accountant

Role Overview:
The Service Charge Accountant plays a key role in ensuring accurate budgeting, reconciliation, and regulatory compliance for service charge funds. Working closely with internal teams, the accountant will manage financial records related to service charges, reserve funds, and leaseholder queries, supporting the organisation's commitment to effective property management and resident satisfaction.
Key Skills & Experience:
• Qualified or part qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
• Demonstrable experience in a similar Rents and Service Charge role
• Knowledge of Section 20 and leasehold legislation
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
• Experience of working in Housing or Property (desirable)
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare and reconcile annual service charge budgets and actuals
• Produce and issue year-end service charge accounts in line with lease agreements and statutory guidelines (Landlord and Tenant Act 1985)
• Manage and report on reserve funds, ensuring correct contributions and balances
• Monitor expenditure, compare against budgets, and post adjustments as needed
• Provide service charge budgets for new developments at design stage
• Calculate and issue service charge estimates, actuals, major works charges, and ground rent within set timescales
• Handle leaseholder and tenant queries regarding service charges, statements, and variances
• Liaise with internal teams (Repairs, Development, Finance) to allocate costs and bill accurately for works and new developments
Requirements:
• Right to work in the UK
• Experience in a similar role within housing or property (desirable)
• Relevant accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or actively studying
• Based in or willing to work on-site in London
• Ability to work within a hybrid environment (2 days WFH)
Nice to Have:
• Experience with leasehold legislation, including Section 20
